What is a Neuropsychological Evaluation?

This is a comprehensive assessment which can help identify the nature and extent of many learning or school-related problems. It includes recommendations for helpful teaching and  classroom strategies. Given Dr. Goodell's special interest in language skills, a unique feature of her neuropsych evaluations is the comprehensive testing of both reading and written language in addition to the standard cognitive areas traditionally covered. She is also aware of the importance of a quick turnaround time for results. Reports are generally mailed out one month after the consultation. She sees individuals age six through adulthood.

Dr. Goodell frequently assesses the following:

  • Dyslexia
  • Language-based Learning Disabilities
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Non-verbal Learning Disorders/Right Hemisphere Deficits
  • Autism/Pervasive Developmental Disorders
  • Asperger Syndrome
  • Lyme Disease
  • Cognitive issues related to injury and/or medical complications

  • Attention/Self-regulation/Executive Functioning
  • Language Skills (screen)
  • Visual-Spatial Skills
  • Memory and Learning
  • Academic Achievement

  • School History
  • Medical and Developmental History

What else is involved in the evaluation process?

  • Completion and review of intake forms and questionnaires
  • Comprehensive review of materials and previous records
  • Analysis and interpretation of testing

  • Consultation with parents/school

The testing experience is:

  • Individualized; not conducted in a group

  • Multiple processes; more than one test
  • Strategically planned; not a routine battery of tests
  • Standardized; allows comparisons
